Building the slope

The endless
slope

A model of the slope at CARVE, to its real dimensions: a 9-metre belt, two drums, a motor and a handrail for beginners.

9 by 5 metres, 14°

The slope is 9 metres long and 5 wide, at an incline of 14°. Its top end is 2.2 metres higher than the bottom.

The belt runs uphill

The slope is an innovative low-friction ski carpet that turns uphill. The skier rides down at the same speed and stays in one place, while the ski tracks travel up with the carpet.

Endless because it's a loop

The belt runs around two drums and comes back underneath, so it never ends. A motor turns one of the drums.

Up to 25 km/h

25 km/h on this slope feels like about 60 on a mountain. At full speed, the nine metres pass under your skis in 1.3 seconds.

The handrail and the instructor

Beginners start by holding the handrail in front of them. The instructor stands by the slope and sets the speed to suit your level.

The hour: 3 × 10 minutes

Ten minutes riding, ten minutes rest, three times. Groups are up to three people of a similar level, with up to six people in an hour. Each hour gives you 30 minutes of actual riding.

What to bring

We provide all the equipment you need, but you're welcome to bring your own boots and/or protective gear. Bring long socks and comfortable clothes, no jeans.

Who is riding

Who it's for

  • Beginners

They learn the stance and their first turns in a controlled setting, before they set foot on snow. Their first day on the mountain is then spent riding.

  • Advanced riders

They polish their technique and stay in shape all year round. The load on the muscles is the same as on a mountain.

  • Children from age 4

Children under 7 start with private sessions and join a group when the instructor decides they are ready.

  • Snowboarders

The same slope and the same hour, on a board. The snowboard, boots and protective gear are included in the price.

On the slope you train carving, edging, steering, pressure and balance.

No liftand no queue

The descent never stops, so your time on the slope is time spent riding. Learn the basics here and keep your first days on snow for the fun part.
